Trans-Phos, Inc. was started in May of 1973, by Sam Whitney, as a truck transporter of phosphate rock for the mining industry in Polk and surrounding counties, which at the time was only being transported by rail. From the very beginning, Trans-Phos, Inc. is a family-owned and operated trucking company, not only serving the phosphate industry but also the site construction industry in West Central Florida. Today, the company is led by second and third-generation Whitney’s. Bill Whitney serves as CEO, and his son Neil Whitney, as President works diligently leading the Construction and Phosphate division.  Neil said, “I am grateful to work alongside my dad to continue working in the trucking industry and build on the legacy my grandfather started 50 years ago.”

From small and humble beginnings in Mulberry, Florida, the company has grown to be one of the largest aggregate haulers in Central Florida.  Fifty years of providing quality service to customers did not just happen. The Whitney family has always been hands-on managers, being totally involved in the daily operation of Trans-Phos. The company has grown from two employees to now employing over 150 company personnel, 300 plus owner-operators with 335 trucks on the road. The company has always considered every employee and associate as part of the family.  Safety has always been one of the top priorities for the employees and drivers and Trans-Phos has instituted formal safety programs with one of the best safety records in the trucking industry within the state of Florida. The company provides safety training, AI dashcams, GPS monitoring and field supervision. It is not uncommon to see the top management out in the field working alongside drivers, maintenance, or administration.  Mark Cannon, Safety Director, Marshal Jackson, Risk Management director, and Kevin McGee, Vice President all say, “Our safety standards are the best within the industry as we strive to keep our drivers, and our entire team and roads safe.”

As the second and third generation of Whitney’s continue to be at the helm of the operation, they diligently work to provide the best and safest trucking services in Florida for decades to come. Bill Whitney, said, “I am proud that we have been able to build upon the foundation started by my father providing exceptional hauling services to our customers, and we look forward to another 50 years!”
